2009-01-18 [Chimes]: You need to edit the wiki yourself, and entries need to be in poem format, not prose. :] (Correct me, if I'm wrong, Jits)
2009-01-18 [Alexi Ice]: Oh I am so excited!!!!! Did Jitter do this for us?????
And yeah Chimes, your right. Poetry format.
2009-01-18 [Jitter]: Yep CHimes you're right.
And yeah I did it because several people asked and nothing was going on contest-wise ^^ And I'm always in for Dark art >:3
2009-01-19 [Alexi Ice]: Awesome!!! *Huggle* I am so excited *Runs to get all my entries done* I am so entering these....
2009-01-19 [Drixt]: yea sorry, im still new at this. but about the "poetry format" its perfectly acceptable. there is no set poetry format the format youre referring to is the classic sonnet style and i simply used a freeform format. if you wanted all your entries to be in sonnet format, it should have been noted. and for reference:http
thankyou
and sorry about the capitolization but thats just how i write.
2009-01-19 [Doormat]: Punctuation plz.
2009-01-19 [Drixt]: thats nice doormat, been published at all?
2009-01-19 [Doormat]: In crappy nondescript anthologies, yes.
Eventually, I'll get a anthology out...
2009-01-19 [Drixt]: yeah, try white oak press, if they like what youve got, theyll publish it. not only that but they can hook you up with bigger publishers, they just wait to see if your serious
2009-01-19 [Nite_Owl]: Fixed some of the general formatting errors ("Written by" and hr tags mostly). And [Drixt], I'd fix your grammar/punctu
Also, NEVER use White Oak, Poetry.com, or anything else possibly related to either (trust me, there are many). They aren't publishers and only want your money. Basically, if they ask you for money, its a scam. Just some general advice there :)
2009-01-19 [Artsieladie]: *winks at [Nite_Owl]* :)
Basically, if they ask you for money, its a scam.
*nods in agreement* The artist/writer/
2009-01-19 [Chimes]: [Drixt], it's not that we want sonnet format... because... sonnet format is completely different to most of the poetry on this page (Sonnets normally have 14 lines, if I am correct) but Stanza form would be better (be it one stanza or more). Your entry currently looks like a piece of prose, which may cause problems for you. To me, as it is now, it reads like prose.
You may be using 'free form'... but 'free form' still requires some form of metre and/or poetic structure otherwise someone could claim that their short story is a poem. On that link, I could see nothing that stated your entry is legitimately in poetry format. I may be old fashioned but when I see that, I see prose.
2009-01-19 [Artsieladie]: *sticks in my two cents* I agree. It appears to me as a 'prose format', as well. ;P
2009-01-19 [Drixt]: well it was written that way, ill mess with it and try to get it into an acceptable format, tell me what you think.
2009-01-19 [Jitter]: Notice: It should go without saying but make sure your spelling and grammar is correct. We don't disqualify but judges never pick a poem or story which isn't properly written.
2009-01-20 [Fractured Memories]: I don't know much about poetry format. Is my entry acceptable? Also, any feedback would be great. This is the first thing I have written in a while due to writer's block.
2009-01-20 [Alexi Ice]: I think it is fine [Fractured Memories] I also think it fits the theme even though there is a little hope at the end *evil laugh* Out of darkness breeds hope, I suppose. The format is fine as well. Good job!
2009-01-21 [Fractured Memories]: To be honest I originally wrote it for the poetry corner for the theme Beginnings and ends, but I thought it might fit ok with this theme as well. Which leads to another question. Can I submit this under both?
2009-01-21 [Alexi Ice]: You can under some circumstances, some contests do not let you submit something from another contest, it just depends. I personally do not know what the poetry corner is so I can not necessarily correctly answer your question.
2009-01-21 [Fractured Memories]: Poetry corner is not a contest. They submit anything that fits the theme and requirements. It is posted in the next issue of the times herald.
2009-01-21 [Nite_Owl]: The general rule is don't submit something you wrote for a different official contest, especially if it won on any level. It just gives other people a chance :)
2009-01-21 [Fractured Memories]: It wasn't a contest. It was just poetry corner thing where if it met the criteria it was accepted meaning there are no winners. Which is why I thought it'd be ok. If it was a different contest I would have not submitted it.
2009-01-21 [Nite_Owl]: That's what I was trying to imply--if it isn't an official contest, it's fine to enter :)
2009-01-21 [Fractured Memories]: I see. Thanks for the info.
2009-01-21 [Alexi Ice]: Mine is probably just a place holder for now..any comments?
2009-01-21 [Linderel]: It has a song lyric kind of rhythm to it... nice. :)
2009-01-21 [Alexi Ice]: Thank you! *hug*
2009-01-22 [Chetleon]: Hmmm. . . I think I may have one of the darkest poems on this page. Yippie.
2009-01-22 [Linderel]: It's also a bit borderline. :P
2009-01-22 [Chetleon]: Ah, come on, it's not that bad.
2009-01-22 [Nite_Owl]: Hmm...I'd agree, it is borderline acceptable, but I guess it'll be up to better men than I to decide :)
2009-01-22 [Chetleon]: Well, I don't think it's overtly graphic if that's what you're talking about. The violence is imaginiary as he's talking to an inanimate object, that or he's treating a human like an inanimate object and doing his best to impress.
2009-01-22 [moira hawthorne]: doesnt anyone here watch CSI or any of the other hundreds of cop crime shows?
2009-01-22 [Alexi Ice]: I love all your poetry, Ethan..I think it is amazing.
2009-01-22 [Chetleon]: Thanks Mitsuki.
2009-01-22 [Alexi Ice]: No problem at all ^^
2009-01-25 [Maeve104]: Oh, wow. I went back to add the number to my entry and [Linderel] was already on it! hehe. :D
2009-01-25 [Linderel]: I'm fast :P
2009-01-25 [Chimes]: Like a ninja... XD
2009-01-28 [Maeve104]: *giggles* Is sneaky, sneaky.
2009-04-10 [Alexi Ice]: When is this competition closing?
2009-04-10 [Linderel]: April 19th. Says on the main page.
2009-04-10 [Alexi Ice]: Thanks.
2009-04-21 [Nite_Owl]: Awesome. Heavy competition :D
2009-05-06 [Heather Thomason]: so has the winners been announced yey
2009-05-06 [Chimes]: Not yet. Voting is still going on.
2009-05-23 [quantumkitten]: My fingernails won't survive my nerves for much longer =D Any updates on voting? Thanks.
2009-05-23 [Chimes]: You'll know soon, sorry for the wait... things need to be assembled for the news item properly.
2009-05-23 [quantumkitten]: Sounds good - thanks for the update! There were a ton of amazing posts and I am sure we are all looking forward to the results.
2009-05-23 [Chimes]: Yeah... It's kinda my fault that you don't know the results yet too... so shoot me if you want :P *is nervous about posting it when Elftown keeps going down*
2009-05-23 [Alexi Ice]: I would definatly back it up somewhere, Chimes.
2009-05-23 [Chimes]: Well, I would do that, that's a given, I just don't want to mess up anything else if the server goes down when I'm doing it.
2009-06-04 [quantumkitten]: well, i saw in the news that the poetry winners were announced under the "poem slot" but I don't see them. I think that I don't know what to look for - can someone tell me where the "poem slot" is from the homepage?
2009-06-04 [Linderel]: 'Poem slot' refers to the space where the Daily Poems are usually featured, but they haven't been posted yet. :)
2009-06-04 [Chimes]: You'll get a notification when they have been though. :)
2009-06-05 [quantumkitten]: okay thanks! =) sorry for the silly question =D
2009-06-06 [Jitter]: I totally forgot! Sorry but I have a wild toddler around all day -.-;;;;;;
2009-07-09 [Alexi Ice]: Badges slow on this one? ^^ (I wanna write in my space that I participated in this competition)
2009-07-09 [Chimes]: I will be badging when I have time...
2009-07-09 [Alexi Ice]: Just checking ^^
2009-07-11 [Jitter]: I'd suggest avoiding writing all the contests you've entered in your badgeslot as it can become cluttered and a hell for people who want to badge you.
